Yuma International Airport Code

Yuma International Airport was established in 1926, when the City of Yuma purchased a 640-acre parcel of land for the purpose of constructing an airport. The original airport was built with a single, unpaved runway and a small hangar. In the early years, the airport was used primarily by local pilots and businesses to transport people and goods around the region. During World War II, it served as a training base for military pilots. After the war, it was used mainly for recreational flying and cargo operations until 1957 when commercial service began. The airport underwent extensive renovations in 1966 to accommodate larger aircrafts. This included paving the runway and lengthening it to 8,000 feet for commercial jets. The terminal building also underwent renovations, allowing for more efficient passenger processing and improved customer service facilities. Since then, Yuma International Airport has seen steady growth in passenger traffic from both domestic and international destinations. It now serves over 600,000 passengers annually with nonstop flights to major cities throughout the United States including Phoenix, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
